Claudia Matthews turns 18 tomorrow – as long as she can make it through the first day of classes at Oakley High School. It’s more than her inherent strangeness that keeps her from fitting in. Her ill-tempered service dog, Luca, isn’t winning her friends and her class schedule is even less welcoming, dropping her into the government- mandated, “The History of Witches.” They are real; she’s been told. They are powerful, and evil – yet Claudia wants to know if that’s actually a universal truth. Are all witches really that bad? When a mysterious gift appears, dark secrets are cast into the light, and the world as she knows it may change forever. Now armed with questions, Claudia will need to figure out if it’s truly worth finding the truth when textbooks don’t hold all the answers. Drawn into a world of hidden covens and regulated magic, she may learn more than she bargained for. Now Claudia has to fight the lure of power and a temptation much more passionate…or lose herself to both. The truth could set her free… or damn her forever.

My thoughts :

Being a urban fantasy junkie, I’m still shocked that I hadn’t come across this book or this author, until now.  I mean, seriously she’s been around for quite a few years and while scrolling through Amazon and Goodreads, I was astounded……vampires, angels, demons….shit, where in bloody hell have I been?

Sure, I’ve been busy….well,  distracted with life and all its messed up glory but I could have found solace in the worlds Author Brenda K Davies creatively paints months ago. I could have fallen deeper into my book coma and hid away behind the pages instead of getting annoyed with the books that didn’t take me far away from my reality.

Let me just start by saying that Good Intentions was fucking fantastic!  Just imagine your world being flipped upside down, everything that you thought you knew and were told growing up, were lies or fabricated. The country that you love has been ripped apart by war (so you were told by news media) and now, it’s about survival. Until one day, you are traded for scrapes by your own mother and torn away from your family….it is then you learn the truth. The truth about your existence. The truth about good and evil. Angels and Demons. It is then you embark on your journey and realize your purpose. Ohhh and throw in a few sexy demons to boot.

See, pretty good shit.

One of my favorite moments:  This is between River and Kobal. Kobal his helping her tune into her abilities.

“Try harder.”

If she figured out how to harvest the life around her, I was fairly certain I’d be lying in the middle of the field a hundred feet from here. She couldn’t know her fire wouldn’t have an effect on me, but if she learned how to turn that pulse of life into a weapon, she’d have me on my ass, and with the look on her face right now, she may keep me there.

“I am trying!” she snapped. “Maybe you could show me a better way to do it instead of barking at me to feel the pulse and try harder! I’m not Luke Skywalker; I can’t just feel the force like he did.”

A stab of jealousy tore through me at the mention of another man. I’d never felt jealousy before, never expected to experience the searing heat tearing through my chest and making my blood boil. My claws extended and if he’d been standing before me, I would have killed him.

“Who is this Luke?” I demanded.

She rolled her eyes. “He was a character in a movie I saw once, years ago.”

“You humans and your infatuation with fictional characters.”

Her eyes narrowed on me. The shadows rimming them made their color a deeper almost midnight purple. “You demons and your dickhead comments.”

Some things can’t be saved.
What would you do if your guardian angel wasn’t sent to protect you from the world but to protect the world from you?
For thirteen years, Gracen Sullivan dreamed about a red-eyed demon named Hart Blackwell who tortured her every night. Deep in the heart of New York City’s netherworld, a horrible disease is ravaging the vampire community. The Vampire Council is on a crusade to obliterate those infected, and Harrow Gates is target Number One. The unwitting source of the plague, he suffers from the same nightmarish symptoms as his victims. The world he’d been thrust into was cold, cruel, and intent on eradicating him, and the legions of afflicted vampires he created with his bite.
A bounty hanging over his head, satisfying his hunger has become an enormous challenge for Harrow. The less he feeds, the more hideous and painful his lesions become. Constantly running for his life and learning new tricks to survive, Harrow is in no position to refuse when Pritchard Tack offers him a unique opportunity. Pritchard not only gives Harrow a new beginning, but also a purpose and a chance to rectify the chaos he created in the vampire world. However, the multi-billionaire has an agenda of his own.
Jordan is a reluctant new vampire and a woman on a mission. After the demise of her family and her own transformation at the hands of Goran, the ruthless leader of the Vampire Council, her only focus is revenge. Constantly faced with one frustrating dead-end after another, a stroke of luck leads her to an underground facility that she suspects is the lair of the monster for whom she is looking.
Upon learning more about the truth behind the secret bunker, Jordan must fight against her growing feelings of friendship and concern for the facility’s inhabitants. One man in particular threatens to pull her heart away from her sworn mission. There is something behind Harrow’s dark lenses that unsettles the hardened female. Once again, she trembles and hungers for something other than red-stained revenge. Is love strong enough to override her hate-fueled thirst for vengeance?
