Haze (The Rephaim #2) by Paula Weston

Buy NOW: Amazon

“But what if we can’t find Jude?”
He leans closer. His breath is warm on my ear. “We will.”
“How can you be so sure?” I want to believe him so badly, but this is Rafa. The guy who’s all action and no plan. His smile is tired, knowing. An echo of a shared past I don’t remember.
“Because I’m not smart enough to give up, and you don’t know how to.”
Gaby Winters’ nightmares have stopped but she still can’t remember her old life. Still can’t quite believe she is one of the Rephaim—the wingless half-angels who can shift from place to place, country to country, in the blink of an eye. That she was once the Rephaim’s best fighter. That demons exist. That Rafa has stayed.
But most of all, she can’t quite believe that her twin brother, Jude, might be alive.
And Gaby can’t explain the hesitancy that sidetracks the search for him, infuriates Rafa, and sends them, again, into the darkest danger.

Blog Tour: How to Date Dead Guys by Ann Noser

How to Date Dead Guys by Ann Noser

Series: Under The Blood Moon

Genre: new-adult, urban-fantasy

Publisher: Curiosity Quills Press

Date of Publication: July 15th, 2014

College sophomore Emma Roberts remembers her mother’s sage advice:  “don’t sleep around, don’t burp in public, and don’t tell anyone you see ghosts”.  But when charming Mike Carlson drowns in the campus river under her watch, Emma’s sheltered life shatters.

Blamed for Mike’s death and haunted by nightmares, Emma turns to witchcraft and a mysterious Book of Shadows to bring him back.  Under a Blood Moon, she lights candles, draws a pentacle on the campus bridge, and casts a spell.  The invoked river rages up against her, but she escapes its fury.  As she stumbles back to the dorm, a stranger drags himself from the water and follows her home. And he isn’t the only one.

Instead of raising Mike, Emma assists the others she stole back from the dead—a pre-med student who jumped off the bridge, a desperate victim determined to solve his own murder, and a frat boy Emma can’t stand…at first.  More comfortable with the dead than the living, Emma delves deeper into the seductive Book of Shadows.  Her powers grow, but witchcraft may not be enough to protect her against the vengeful river and the killers that feed it their victims.

Inspired by the controversial Smiley Face Murders, HOW TO DATE DEAD GUYS will ignite the secret powers hidden deep within each of us.

My to-do list dictates that I try to cram 48 hours of living into a day instead of the usual 24.  I’ve chosen a life filled with animals.  I train for marathons with my dog, then go to work as a small animal veterinarian, and finish the day by tripping over my pets as I attempt to convince my two unruly children that YES, it really IS time for bed.  But I can’t wait until the house is quiet to write; I have to steal moments throughout the day.  Ten minutes here, a half hour there, I live within my imagination.

Like all busy American mothers, I multi-task.  I work out plot holes during runs.  Instead of meditating, I type madly during yoga stretches.  I find inspiration in everyday things:  a beautiful smile, a heartbreaking song, or a newspaper article on a political theory.  For example, a long drive in the dark listening to an NPR program on the SMILEY FACE MURDERS theory made me ask so many questions that I wrote HOW TO DATE DEAD GUYS to answer them to my satisfaction.

I’d love to have more time to write (and run, read, and sleep), but until I find Hermione Granger’s time turner, I will juggle real life with the half-written stories in my head.  Main characters and plot lines intertwine in my cranium, and I need to let my writing weave the tales on paper so I can find out what happens next.

my reivew

Whew ok first off I have mixed feelings about this book.  I LOVED the first part and didn’t love the second.  I rated it a solid 3 stars.

Emma is a sophomore in college with her roommate Chrissy.  Chrissy starts has the hots for a guy named Kevin so she drags Emma to a party.  Emma hates parties.  She would much rather be in her comfy clothes reading.  She reluctingly tags along.  Kevin’s brother Mike has Emma’s attention from the beginning.  She totally crushes on him and when he wants to go for a walk on his 21st birthday she agrees without hesitation…even if he is wasted.

Mike talks her into swimming in the river.  She has a really bad feeling about it but goes in because she doesn’t want to say no to him.  Then the horrible got worse.  Mike disappears.  Emma wakes up in the hospital with the police asking her questions.  Mike is dead.  Kevin blames her and Chrissy moves out.  Could her life get any worse?  She decides to use the Book of Shadows to cast a spell in hopes to bring Mike back.  She found the book in her room after Chrissy’s sister used to to make a love spell between Kevin and Chrissy.  It seemed to work for Chrissy so she is hoping it will do the same for her.

Once the spell is cast things start getting weirder.  Dead guys start popping up and only appear as their true selves on a full moon, in pictures and in their reflections.  Emma has a soft spot for everyone of them and helps them come to terms with their deaths.  Just when she gets attached to them they disappear.  When the last one is Mike she is desperate to hold on to him but the Book of Shadows has other plans.

It’s becoming harder and harder to tell the difference between the path that’ll lead to her happily ever after, and the path that’ll lead to her destruction as well as all magic.

my reivewOk I’m ashamed to admit I haven’t read Blood and Snow season 1.  BUT WHEW am I going to now!  5 crazy ++++ beautiful +++++ magical stars! It’s like taking all of the fairytales you loved as a kid, mixing them up and putting some dark, twisty, hot and steamy elements in them.  WOW is all I can say! If you haven’t read the first series.  YOU MUST but don’t worry.  The story unfolds beautifully without knowing the history of the Vampire Queen. I can’t wait to read them all now *squeals*~!

Ok on with the show.

Jasmine is a teenage original vampire.  Daughter of Snow White, the Vampire Queen.  She also sports huge black wings that no other vampire of her kinds has.  She hates them and believes they keep her from living a normal life (or as normal as a teenager vampire can be).  After arguing with her parents one night she decides to return to her favorite hidden spot.  A magical cave where she meets Laeddan.

Laeddan is and has always been captivated by Jasmine.  He watches her every time she enters his home.  He tries to hold back but appears before her.  She is as captivated by him as he is her.  His blood is intoxicating.  When he tells her he is a genie and that by her finding his cave has made her his mistress.  What does a girl do?  She wants to be normal.  So she wishes it and off to Salem she goes where her wings are hidden and she can finally go to high school like a normal girl.  Only problem she still is a vampire and still craves blood.  Though Laedden helps her out in any way he can she still struggles with the urges and tries to make friends.  She finds that being a human teenager is much harder than she thought.  She is tricked into going into the woods by a girl from school where she comes across a man that has been cause of the recent killings.  She is attacked and fends him off only to find out that he is not human.  He vows revenge and starts hurting people that she cares about.

When that person happens to be Laeddan she is determined to do everything in her power to save him. Then…wait for it…wait for it.

Let’s just say I really really REALLY can’t wait to read the next one and can only hope it’s as good as this.

Sweet Reckoning (The Sweet Trilogy #3) by Wendy Wiggins

4.5 stars!  Wow what a great ending to a great trilogy!!!! Wendy sure does have a way of putting you on pins and needles.

But grrrrrrr I don’t like spoilers so I’m going to try to review it the best of my ability without letting any juicy details out and trust me there are A LOT!

Anna is getting ready for college and Kaiden is still in LA.  They still must keep their relationship a secret so other than the occasional text or video chat they don’t see each other.  Jay and Veronica broke up and she moves to Spain to study abroad and leaves Jay heartbroken.  Anna and her dad, the Duke of Substance Abuse, continue to try to gain allies to help fight the Dukes.

Meanwhile Kaiden’s dad, the Duke of Lust is growing impatient and wants to see if Anna’s virtue is still intact so he sends spies and spirits to follow her.  When that doesn’t work he sends his son to “make sure the job is done’.  After some compromising positions and close calls they get a much needed break.  Enter the twins…Ginger and Marla are back and Marla has her eyes for Jay and Ginger is pissed. Anna’s dad finds a way out (and a new body lol) to keep the Dukes from growing suspicious of Anna.  OK OK I loved this part.  I can’t really go into details but man it was good!

The Duke of Lust is relentless and makes Kaiden kidnap her and bring her to a summit meeting in Vegas and fecal matter hit the oscillator if you know what I mean.

So if you love the Sweet Trilogy like I do you WILL NOT be disappointed!

Shattered Secrets (The Book of Red #1) by Krystal Wade

Shattered Secrets
Shattered Secrets by Krystal Wade
My rating: 2 of 5 stars

Loved the idea for this book but I found the pace to be off. At times I was extremely bored and others I was racing to read the next page.

Abigal has a huge crush on her best friend Derick until one day they share a kiss and then he completely ignores her for three months. She is heartbroken and confused.

He shows up on her doorstep one night and she literally slams the door in his face (good for her!)

After that the story gets a little crazy. After another knock on the door, whom she thinks is Derick again, she finds a strange man that kidnaps her and stuffs her in the truck. She is recused by Derick himself and her childhood friend Mark.

Secrets get told and she discovers that she is the last living Guardian. A race of supernatural beings from Kaloan, that protect human kind from evil. She also discovers that Derick is a Kalonan and that they both posses abilities.

Derick’s parents give her a magical book on the history of Kalona. They fleed their home and relocate to Florida where they consider it a safe zone. Only to find that they are not safe at all and everyone that they love is in jeopardy.

Together with the help of friends they try to fight evil and decode from the truth and lies that the book is telling them.

This book was given to me for a fair and honest review.

Ok WOW just WOW. 5 Fangtastic stars!

I can’t remember the last time a book made me cry….bravo Julie Kagawa bravo!

Ok so I’m going to do my darnedest to make this a spoiler free review BUT sometimes I get a little carried away so consider yourself warned.

First off we start with Allison leaving Eden in search of Kanin who we know has been captured by that nasty vampire Sarrin. He is badly injured and calling out to her

 photo kanin_zps6a83ef35.gif

She stumbles upon her not so loving brother Jackal (don’t you think Klaus would be a perfect Jackal?)

“This is the most I have ever been in the sewers in one place. If someone had said to me a month ago. ‘Hey Jackal, guess where you’ll be spending most of your time in New Convington? Ankle-deep in shit!’ I would’ve ripped their lips off.”

 photo jackal_zps281d0017.gif

I have to admit that Jackal did warm up to me a few times…ok maybe once but hey better than none right?

BUT WHAT IS THIS???? Zeke is back! Love him and all of his hotness….mmmm mmmm mmmmm.

 photo yum.gif

 photo zeke_zps28a18bc1.jpg

Together the three of them nicely ask the Prince of New Covington to release Kanin. But of course he’s an ass and has crazy conditions that I can’t really give you privy too.

Skip forward some ass kicking moments and BAM the ending with floor you. If you like HEAs you might want to steer clear of this book until the next installment is released.

LOVE LOVE LOVED this book and CAN NOT WAIT for the next!!!!
