Past Heaven

by Laura Ward

Publication Date: January 26, 2015
Genre: Stand-alone contemporary romance

Not every love story has a happy ending. Some just change your life.

Liz Atwater’s happily ever after was torn from her the instant her husband, Jack, was murdered. She is forced to pick up the shattered pieces of her life and raise her three young sons alone.

Reynolds Carter’s picture perfect Hollywood life ended the moment the paparazzi got hold of his girlfriend’s cheating scandal. As he watches his life unfold in the tabloids, he comes to a crossroads in his career and his purpose.

When Reynolds takes on the challenge of a new project, his world collides with that of Liz. Neither of them expected their professional relationship to evolve into friendship, or love.

But life is never simple.

Faced with complications from family, friends, and colleagues, Liz and Reynolds are left to decide whether two people from such different worlds can find happiness together.
Can they get past the pain, fear, and guilt and risk their hearts to love again?

4.5 heart crashing beautiful stars!

First off I LOVED Laura’s debut album Not Yet (see review here).  So automatically I knew this one was going to be epic.  And it was.  Beautifully written and well executed.  The pages brought you right into the life of Liz and Reynolds.  I didn’t know at first if I would care of Reynolds but wow he turned out to be nothing like you would imagine.

Life for Liz is a constant struggle since the murder of her husband Jack.  He died doing something he loved.  Murdered while attending an awards benefit for his crusade to shut down extended care centers for the handicapped that are abusing their patients.  She knows that Jack would want her to be strong for her three boys so she turns to running as an outlet for relief.

Reynolds Carter is a hot Hollywood actor that recently found his girlfriend has been cheating on him.  He is not as heartbroken as he would think but the press are driving him insane so he retreats to his parents home.

That’s when he learns about Jack.  He is drawn to his story and believes that creating a screenwriter to portray his life is his calling.  So he travels to Baltimore to convince his widow to let him create the movie.

Only thing is he never realized the strength and beauty that Liz would possess.  She captivates him from the very beginning but she is afraid to open up, afraid to be touched, afraid that her children will become too attached to him so she pushes away.

The heart wants what the heart wants so they find themselves falling in love anyway even though the forces of nature are against them aka Kylie, Reynolds’ ex, the paparazzi and the fear of losing everything they have worked so hard to create.

Spelling binding, addictive. Loved every word.

My Reynolds

My Liz
