Deep in the heart of New York City’s netherworld, a horrible disease is ravaging the vampire community. The Vampire Council is on a crusade to obliterate those infected, and Harrow Gates is target Number One. The unwitting source of the plague, he suffers from the same nightmarish symptoms as his victims. The world he’d been thrust into was cold, cruel, and intent on eradicating him, and the legions of afflicted vampires he created with his bite.
A bounty hanging over his head, satisfying his hunger has become an enormous challenge for Harrow. The less he feeds, the more hideous and painful his lesions become. Constantly running for his life and learning new tricks to survive, Harrow is in no position to refuse when Pritchard Tack offers him a unique opportunity. Pritchard not only gives Harrow a new beginning, but also a purpose and a chance to rectify the chaos he created in the vampire world. However, the multi-billionaire has an agenda of his own.
Jordan is a reluctant new vampire and a woman on a mission. After the demise of her family and her own transformation at the hands of Goran, the ruthless leader of the Vampire Council, her only focus is revenge. Constantly faced with one frustrating dead-end after another, a stroke of luck leads her to an underground facility that she suspects is the lair of the monster for whom she is looking.
Upon learning more about the truth behind the secret bunker, Jordan must fight against her growing feelings of friendship and concern for the facility’s inhabitants. One man in particular threatens to pull her heart away from her sworn mission. There is something behind Harrow’s dark lenses that unsettles the hardened female. Once again, she trembles and hungers for something other than red-stained revenge. Is love strong enough to override her hate-fueled thirst for vengeance?

My Rating: 4 out of 5 Stars

This book was recommended to me from my vampire loving blogger friend over at Valley Girl Gone Country.  She’s a book pusher lol and a very good one at that as well as apart of Lorenz’s street team so I knew that I HAD to read this one.  When I FINALLY got a chance to read it, WOW is all I can say.

This story was fresh and original.  You instantly get a connection with all the characters.  Though it did take me about 30% to really get into the book since being the first of a series you have to learn the characters as well as get used to a brand new storyline.

Once I did though BAM what a ride.  I loved Harrow.  The compassion and humanity he held as a vampire was phenomenal.  Instead of following two main characters the author introduces you to many.  I fell in love with all of them.

There is a LOT of material to cover in this book so bare with me. lol

The book starts off with Harrow Gates, a rogue vampire that carries a very infectious disease which can affect both humans and other vampires.  He has to eat but doesn’t wish this disease on his worst enemy so he uses syringes to extract blood from his victims.

In comes Tor (love me some Tor).  His loathes the infected and makes it his personal mission to eradicate them.

What they both didn’t expect was to be captured…together.  That is when their life will never be the same.

Pritchard Tack is a very wealthy man that owns Tack Enterprise.  When his daughter Allison got attacked and turned by a infected vampire. He

puts together the best team of doctors and soldiers to help find a cure.  Capturing all of the infected and housing them in his facility.  They began as reluctant guests but soon warm up to the idea of working for him in exchange for a cure.

When Jordan, another captured un-infected vampire is brought into the facility Harrow is instantly memorized by this fiery redhead.  Jordan no so much and kicks his ass during their first encounter.  LOVED THAT PART. After awhile though everyone starts to play nice.

In comes in the Vampire Council and their purebred leader, Goran.  He is one nasty and vicious vamp if you ask me.  He seeks out beautiful redhead human females, impregnates and turns them to become a part of his harem.

Demetrius is Goran’s son. If you would call him that. Goran basically treats him like shit and rides his ass all the time.  Demetrious is tasked with heading up the council army and continuing the numbers by turning humans on a regular basis. Their main objective is to preserve the vampire species by killing all infected vampires. When he notices that some of the eradicated vamps are wearing ankle bracelets with the initials TE he gets curious and starts to do some digging.

All the while Jordan and Harrow’s attraction for each other grows.  My heart aches for these two.  Wanting someone so bad but unable to do anything about it.

When the Council and Tack Enterprises finally clash it is HUGE.  I was on the edge of my seat!  The ending again HUGE.  You really REALLY need to read this series. I can’t wait to start Torment!

Favorite Scene: When Harrow follows Jordan into the forest.

Favorite Quote:

“But my staying with you won’t be like this.  Touching, but never owning.  Kissing, but not penetrating.  I don’t want you halfway, Harrow.  I want all of you.  Disease or no disease.  I want you, to be with you.” Font
