Series Spotlight: Midnight Moonrising by K.S. Haigwood & Anne Conley + Reviews

Computer Genrated Eclipse

Accepting the Moon

Publication Date: September 1, 2014
Series:  Moonrising Prequel

There is a new Alpha Wolf in town, and she is about to change everything.
Mena had all she wanted in life: a nice house, money, a successful husband who treated her like a queen.
That was, until she found out her marriage was all a lie, and things she never thought could exist, did.
Vampires are real.
Werewolves are real.
And Mena is not human anymore.

My Rating: 5 out of 5 stars

First off, as most of you may already know I’m Team Phoenix all the way.  I have tried to find my ideal man to dreamcast him, but sadly this is as close as I can get to Mr. Sex-on-a-Stick himself.

This prequel, sets in motion the strange events that lead up to Mena becoming the alpha werewolf.  I HIGHLY recommend that you read this first, since it gives you some much needed information about her husband, Jaxon and Phoenix.

Mena’s world has went to hell in a hand basket.  After leaving her husband, she is attacked by a group of “dogs”, only to be saved by some guy with crazy ninja skills.

Waking up in a strange place, she soon discovered the true identity of her husband and that she is now a “dog” herself.  You can say, she didn’t take the news well at first.

Phoenix, vampire clan leader, is intrigued by this little wolf.  He mind is telling him that she needs to be killed, his body on the other hand, has different plans for her. Their attraction for one another quickly grows, as the date fast approaches for her to claim her pack and secure the truce between the werewolves and vampires, once and for all.

Favorite Scene:
When she first meets Phoenix.
Favorite Quotes:

Because, if you stay, I will make you mine.  You will belong to me.  I will do as Jaxon suggests and sire you, making me ruler over the werewolves as well as the vampires.  You and I would be bonded together for an eternity, Mena but I share my throne with no one.  His gaze fell from my eyes to my lips.  “You are dangerous to me,” he said softly, “because for you, I almost would.”

Mena’s life is complicated. She’s just murdered and buried her husband, the local wolf pack’s alpha – problem number one. Phoenix, the High Vampire, is the one her heart beats for, but not the one her wolf wants – problem number two. Her wolf pines for Alex, the human homicide detective who might just send her down for murder – three. Four, wolves and vampires don’t mix. Five, she has no clue how to be alpha, keep her pack safe while fighting off challengers with every step she takes, or what it would take to tame her wolf, which is the biggest problem of them all. Because the beast might just forfeit Mena’s life when its insatiable thirst for blood is unleashed on the world in just a few short days, with the next full moon.
Which should be doable. Except for the Nexus… and the little extra problem of bonding with a stranger.

My Rating: 5 out of 5 stars

I realized very quickly that Mena’s wolf is a bitch.  It’s like an invasion of the body snatchers.  Mena stays in constant turmoil.

“I don’t need your help!”
”Yes, you do, Mena!”  I’m not going to let you get us killed.  Whether you like it or not, this is my body, too, and I aim to keep it alive and out of prison!”  she shouted back as she flung a small suitcase onto the bed.
”Your body is hairy and has four legs, bitch!”
”Screw you—“

In comes Alex, the detective over her husband’s case.  As soon as Mena’s wolf meets Alex, she claims him as hers.  Which forces Mena into a very strange predicament.  Mena is in love with Phoenix.  So the two come to an awkward agreement.  She gets Phoenix, then her wolf takes over her body, so she can have Alex.

Phoenix is not real, keen with this agreement as one might imagine.

As soon as her pack learns of her wolfs ability to control her, they frantically seek out another alpha that can demand the wolf call out her name.  This will enable her wolf the inability to speak or possess her body.  A nameless wolf is known as a Moonrising wolf, and  is considered a danger and an abomination.  If they can not find another male alpha willing to bond with her before the next full moon, they risk losing her forever.

Now finally meet Ace.  The cocky, lion shifter from Las Vegas. I admit I didn’t like him.  Phoenix is clearly heartbroken but knows that this is the only way. Once the bond takes place they will be mated for life.  Throw in the fact that Alex believes Mena is in love with him also and yep, you guess it one big, epic, love triangle.

There are so many layers to this story.  It’s complexity will leave you on the edge of your seat.

Favorite Scene: When they meet the witches for the first time.
Favorite Quotes:

You are everything I never knew I wanted.”

Publication Date: May 12, 2016
Series:  Moonrising #2

The Moonrising story continues…
The Alpha Lion of Las Vegas, Ace Keller, has luck on his side, at the poker table and with the ladies, calling bluffs and breaking hearts whenever the notion strikes him.
After bonding with the Alpha Wolf of Montgomery, Alabama, fate flips Ace’s simple world upside down when he finds himself desiring only one woman in his life — Andromeda. But not only does he want her, he needs her touch in order to live.
The bond forces them to feel each other’s emotions and hear each other’s thoughts, which wouldn’t be a problem except Andromeda is in love with a Master Vampire, and Ace has dark secrets of his own that could put her in danger.

My Rating: 5 out of 5 stars

Whew, this is going to a hard review to write.

Mena, now known as Andromeda or Andra, as Ace likes to call her, is fighting a constant battle with her heart and her body.  Her heart still belongs to Phoenix, but her body craves Ace’s touch.

Now bonded, she agrees to return to Las Vegas with him to meet his pride. The bond is driving them both mad.  Andra misses Phoenix, Ace wishes for her to forget about him and move on…with him.  But the heart wants what the heart wants.

The bond took that choice away from us, Andra,” he said softly.  “I’m sorry that you’re not happy here with me.  I’m sorry that I don’t have a perfect past.  I’m sorry that I’m not good enough for you.  Above everything else, I’m sorry that you refuse to love me…because I think that we could have a great love together, a love so great that people would talk about it for centuries.”

Meanwhile, Ace is harboring a very dangerous secret that he’s afraid if Andra finds out, he will lose her forever.  Andra knows that he is hiding something but he blocks her out of his mind before she ever has a chance to discover the truth.

There are several new characters introduced in this book.  Slade, Ace’s beta.  Clay, the lead singer of Salacious Limerick, Andra’s favorite band.  Clay’s sisters Embyr and Rainey and Deus.  Rainey’s mate.

I admit, I was distraught when she chose Ace. He was a straight-up dick to her at one point.  Sigh…but he did mange to warm me over…some.

Insert Phoenix and her pack back into this equation and yep, you guessed it.  Trouble in paradise.

In the end Phoenix managed to screw up royally, in hopes to win Mena’s affections that even I had to question his motives. This one is a real nail biter.  I can’t wait to read the next one!

Favorite Scene: Phoenix and the coffin…hehe.
Favorite Quotes:

I feel I love with him before I met you, before you and I bonded.  True love never dies.  I believe that, and I believe what Phoenix and I have is true love.”

Far from crazy, but equally as far from normal. There are voices in her head and she talks to them often. She works as a CNC Machinist by day and saves the world by night and weekend. Welcome to her world.
